Steve's must have albums

So after listening to Jack's pirate music and 'Dragon Tales', Hailey's rockin' tunes, and a little bit of my own music for at least 25 hours in the car this last week on our trip to California I've decided to post 5 'must have' albums. Hopefully some will check them out. If so, get ready to rock.

1. Edith Frost -Wonder Wonder

2. Lee Hazelwood - poet, fool, or bum

3. Low-things we lost in the fire

4. The Innocence Mission-glow

5-Peter Murphy- Cascade

Hey Steve, this is my official first ever comment on someone else's blog and fitting, I might add that it is on music you have introduced me to... I would have to say that of the five you selected, Glow is my favorite... the whole album flows and is good listening on the road (even if Hailey thinks its pedophile music). How could you leave off John Denver, though?

Yeah, Hailey and I thought John Denver should be included. However, I opted to include some cds that most people may not have been exposed to. Are you ready for the Subway?

Steve, I'm not sure I'd pass on Dragontales for some of this. I like the Innocence Mission songs Derek has gotten through you, but I think you'll have to keep Peter Murphy and Lee Hazlewood. Maybe it was just their pictures that freaked me out. :) And I don't know about the pedophile stuff, but some of it sounds like serious "drug music" to me! Not that you use it... just those musicians who must have been high when they wrote it. But that's pretty candid commentary for an in-law, isn't it?!

I get scared when I looked at their pictures too. Maybe that's one of reasons I like them. It makes me feel like I look semi-normal. I think the music that sounds the most drugged out is Low. It is actually a husband and wife who are Mormons. They won't play anywhere that sells alcohol (unless they club suspends sales for the night of the concert). As you know the innocence mission is a Christian rock band, if you can call it rock. Peter Murphy converted to Islam. Lee just died last year. More than anyone wants to know.

no - that is exactly the stuff I like to know! It's always interesting to me to have the broader context. I'm totally shocked about Low being a Mormon couple! or is that kind of like Steve Martin being a member... :)

I can honestly say that I have never heard of any of those albums or any of those artists. Is Edith Miller related to Glen Miller? That's why we love ya steve-o.

I can't believe that hailey puts up with that stuff. thank heavens kent is not an obscure music lover.

I just hope that everyone who reads this will listed to at least one song off each album. Then maybe you'll know why you never heard of these bands (or maybe you'll want to hear another tune).

last night on the train it occurred to me that Brendon Perry's "Eye of the Hunter" didn't make your top 5. That got me thinking about Peter Murphey so i decided to listen to "Deep" and i couldn't get enough of it.

Eye of the hunter! Why can't brendan do more? another brendan talked about bacteria that may be essential to the lichen system.
